What is Fluocinolone 0.01% body oil?

Fluocinolone acetonide 0.01% body oil is a prescription topical corticosteroid for atopic dermatitis in adults. Its lightweight oil vehicle spreads easily over widespread, dry, or scaly skin where applying a thicker cream or ointment can be impractical.

It is intended to calm an active flare and should be stopped when the condition is controlled. Your Fern clinician will confirm the areas, frequency, and duration that fit your case.

Frequently asked

The medication is a topical corticosteroid, while the oil is its delivery vehicle. The oil spreads easily across larger, dry, or scaly areas and may be more convenient when many patches need treatment.

The adult prescribing information directs a thin film on affected areas three times daily. Use only the amount, frequency, and duration your clinician prescribes, and stop when the eczema is controlled.

Not unless your clinician specifically directs you to. The label advises avoiding the face, underarms, groin, and other skin-fold areas because these areas have a higher risk of local side effects.

Contact the care team if you see no improvement within 2 weeks, or sooner if the area becomes painful, warm, weepy, or crusted. Those changes can suggest infection or another condition that needs a different treatment.

Share any peanut allergy, pregnancy or breastfeeding, current skin infection, and all other topical medicines you use. Some fluocinolone body-oil formulations contain refined peanut oil, and combining corticosteroids can increase exposure.
